Daniel Dragan was born on December 20, 1935, in Glodeni, the county of Dambovita, in an Orthodox family. He learnt in the primary school of his native village, then he attended the secondary school and highschool at the National Military College "Nicolae Filipescu", Dealu Monastery, Predeal, "lenachita Vacarescu" Highschool, Targoviste and "Andrei Saguna" College, Brasov. He graduated the School of Literature and Literary Cntics "Mihai Eminescu" of the Writers' Union and the Journalism Faculty in Bucharest.

He founded and managed the revues ASTRA (1980-1990), "Brasovul literar si artistic", 1981, and "Coresi" (1990-1993).

He runs Arania Publishinq House, founded by him.

He was a president of Romanian Society of Publishing House's Owners, two legislatures (1994-1996). He was honorary president of the Romanian Society of Publishing House's owners (1996-1999).
